AAMI Stradbroke Handicap Summary

The Group 1 1400m AAMI Stradbroke Handicap was first run in 1890.  The 200 sovereign prize was taken out by Pyrrhus. 

The Stradbroke was named after Lord Stradbroke, a relative of Admiral Rous, an architect of the weight for age scale. 

In 1996, the Stradbroke Handicap reached elite status when the club raised the stakes to $1 million.  Now 127 years on in history, the AAMI Stradbroke Handicap is Australia's premier sprint handicapped race and Queensland's richest race.

Top equine champions have won the AAMI Stradbroke Handicap over the years including the likes of Rough Habit (1991 & 1992); Daybreak Lover (1984 & 1986) and last year's champion, La Montagna.  Click here for more feature results.
